Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse

Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse is located in Alameda County at 661 Washington Street, Oakland, CA 94612. The courthouse is named after the first African American justice appointed to a court in California. The building was constructed in 1934 and served as the county’s main courthouse until 2001 when it was replaced by the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse. The building is now home to the Alameda County Superior Court – Oakland Courthouse.

The courthouse is located in downtown Oakland, near the intersection of Washington Street and 12th Street. The building is a five-story Beaux Arts style structure. The exterior of the building is faced with limestone and features a central portico with six columns. The interior of the courthouse features marble floors and walls, as well as a stained glass skylight.

The courthouse is named after Wiley W. Manuel, who was the first African American justice appointed to a court in California. Justice Manuel served on the Alameda County Superior Court from 1977 until his death in 1981.

The courthouse is open Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm. Visitors must pass through security screening before entering the building. The courthouse is accessible to people with disabilities.
